An Intentional Process

Over the last several weeks, I have added, in a random order, various blogs related to the work of making disciples. It has been a “quick hit” of several topics that are essential to the skill of discipleship. I thought it would be good to lay out a flow, an intentional process that ties all of the past topics together.

Embrace the Role

This was my “Prince Harry” blog. It all starts here. Each believer must embrace the invitation of Jesus to become fishers of men. This is central to who I am, and what Jesus has called me to do. Having embraced my role, next comes growth, training and preparation.

Focused Training

As a believer, I embrace a passion to grow to become more like Christ. I incorporate into my life the spiritual disciplines that facilitate growth. (Prayer, Time in the Word, Filling of the Holy Spirit, Accountability Relationships etc) I enter into a training relationship that includes a high degree of accountability such that I might acquire DM skills.

DM Skill Development

Through instruction, and practice, I begin my journey of intentional effort to reach the people within my sphere of influence. 1) Identify People Who Need Jesus, 2) Pray for Them, 3) Begin spiritual conversations through well placed questions, 4) Tell My Story. Through these efforts, Identify those who are persons of peace, those showing an interest in learning more about Jesus.

Intentional Follow Through

For the person who shows interest in Jesus, Determine the most effective way to lead them one step closer to Jesus, wherever they are on their journey.
For an unchurched person: Maybe a Discovery Bible Study, DBS (or The Invitation booklet)
For a religious person: Maybe share the Gospel, DBS ( or the Who is Jesus? booklet)
For a New Believer: Maybe a DBS (or the DM Series 1 booklet)

Making Disciples does not just happen. It requires commitment to a defined intentional process. There is no greater privilege than to participate in the Kingdom Work of Jesus Christ. 1 Cor 15:58

May the Lord use each of us to be part of a Disciple Making Movement within our sphere of influence.
